Max Verstappen's Red Bull exit clause set to expire this weekend!
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says that Max Verstappen staying with the team for next season is almost certain, despite potential interest from Mercedes.
Reports suggested that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff was seen having dinner with Max's dad Jos, who is heavily involved in his son's career, but Marko says that Red Bull are not worried.
The 76-year old told Austrian broadcaster ORF: “We are in a comfortable situation. If Mr Wolff goes to dinner with Jos Verstappen, that’s his business. Max, not Jos, drives for us.
“The chances of Max staying is 99 per cent. There’s one mathematically tiny little chance that I do not think will happen.”
There is supposedly an exit clause in the Dutchman's contract, but if he sits third in the championship after the Hungarian Grand Prix, it will expire.
Verstappen is currently 21 points ahead of fourth placed Sebastian Vettel in the standings.
Marko added: “I’m not great at maths, but Sebastian would have to win the race with Max not getting any points."
