Abiteboul: Renault need Ricciardo's fighting attitude after summer break
With things not running smoothly, Cyril Abiteboul praises Daniel Ricciardo's attitude during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The former Red Bull driver started from the back of the Formula 1 grid and finished 14th. His boss praised his fighting attitude and suggests everyone at Renault needs to follow.
Two finishes outside the points followed a double-DNF in Germany. The French team have scored just seven points in the last four Grands Prix as their chances to retain 4th place in the Formula 1 world championship look slim. Going into the summer break, Abiteboul suggests the team need to fight like Ricciardo.
"Daniel ran a good race, but starting last is always going to be a challenge at a track like Budapest. He still managed to gain several positions and had a good fight with Magnussen until the last corner, showing that he is a fighter who does not surrender," Abiteboul said.
"His attitude on track must be an inspiration for us as we head towards the summer break, with a first half of the season well below our objectives.”
Renault now sits in 6th place, 43 points behind midfield leaders McLaren. Toro Rosso is sandwiched between the two teams after Daniil Kvyat's German Grand Prix podium.
