McLaren not against adding to race calendar
- Tom Mason
McLaren boss Andreas Seidl has admitted that he wouldn't be against a switch to a 22 race season.
However, he did have caution over the move due to the damage it could do further down the line.
"Some details are still under discussion, but in principle, we supported additional races in 2020, keeping in mind that we have to be very careful about the extra burden we put on our staff.
"We also need to remember that the exclusivity of Formula 1 racing is important and the more races you add, the more they dilute.
"I would also be in favour of maintaining the current number of races and alternating from one year to the next, to create opportunities for new circuits. "
The circuit currently has 21 races but could be boosted up to 22 next year with the additions of Vietnam and the Netherlands.
Formula 1 is yet to reveal their full calendar but the 2020 season will start on the 15th March in Melbourne.
