Lewis Hamilton "open to" Formula E switch says Toto Wolff
Lewis Hamilton is one of the best Formula 1 drivers of this generation and his Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said that the Brit has not ruled out proving himself in another series. Mercedes have started a Formula E team and wolff has revealed that this could be an option for the five-time Formula 1 world champion in the future.
''Lewis follows a lot of motorsports and we have certainly already talked about Formula E. When we were both unable to sleep in Shanghai, it came on TV and we sat together watching. We exchanged some ideas there then," Wolff said to SNTV.
"Lewis is a versatile driver who really has an eye for that sport. If the popularity for Formula E will increase, then he really is someone who is open to it. But now his focus is still on Formula 1."
Mercedes have set up a Formula E team this year and Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne are set to drive for them. There will be a close relationship between the Mercedes Formula 1 team and who knows, in the future, the drivers could swap.
"It would be crazy not to use some of the experience we’ve built up over the years as we start on this adventure so obviously we’re working with Mercedes AMG High-Performance Powertrains,” Mercedes Formula E boss Ian James said to The Express.
“We’re also able to tap into the F1 team in certain other aspects as well. It’s taking those ingredients that we’ve got and bringing them all together in hopefully the right recipe.”
If Formula E continues to grow as a sport who knows who we could see racing for the electric formula.
