Daniel Ricciardo: "Renault have the resources to join the top teams"
Daniel Ricciardo announced last year to make the switch from Red Bull to Renault and at the time many were sceptical about whether the move would pay off. Nearly one season into the switch, Ricciardo will be disappointed with the results.
However, Ricciardo has spotted a benefit from working with a factory team instead of a customer one like Red Bull.
"You can just get a little more information if you want because the engine factory is accessible. That is the only thing because both organizations are very professional," Ricciardo told Ziggo Sport when asked about the difference between Renault and Red Bull.
"The engine was, of course, a weak point of Renault, that's no secret. I am really happy for the team that this engine is so good. After all the criticisms they now have some rest with such a good engine."
"We have the resources to join the top teams, so you don't have to adjust your goals. This year was not good, but we learned a lot from it. Thanks to those lessons, we can still aim high for 2020."
''I am happy with Nico as my teammate, but that Esteban is good too. I'm a little selfish. I can learn a lot from a new teammate because every driver has something that makes him special. You can never be faster anywhere on any circuit, so you can learn from new drivers," Ricciardo concluded.
