Max Verstappen RETIRES from Red Bull Honda's first home race in Japan
Max Verstappen has retired from the Japenese Grand Prix. The Dutchman had contact with Charles Leclerc during the opening few corners of the race. It's Honda's first race at home with an engine inside the Aston Red Bull Racing car.
The home fans, Red Bull and Verstappen himself were confident of a good result in Suzuka, but it wasn't to be after the 22-year-old was forced to retire on lap 16 of the Japanese Grand Prix.
Verstappen had contact and ran across the gravel in the opening lap. He rejoined the track and found himself at the back of the grid. Red Bull claim this is due to the damage on the car sustained on lap 1.
