Ecclestone: "Leclerc makes too many mistake just like Verstappen at the beginning"
Charles Leclerc relegated his pole position start to a P4 finish in the Mexican Grand Prix. Once again, the Ferrari strategy along with a slow pitstop let the man from Monaco down. But former boss Bernie Ecclestone believes Leclerc is making too many mistakes and continues to be outclassed by his four-time world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Leclerc remains ahead of Vettel in the F1 world championship, but his lead has been cut to six points after Vettel's second-place finish in Sunday's race. Max Verstappen is also still in the mix for a third-place finish in the world championship, a man who is expected to fight with Leclerc for the duration of their careers.
Ecclestone links Leclerc to Verstappen in his response to Swiss newspaper Blick.
"The boy is good, but he still makes too many mistakes, just as Verstappen did at the beginning of his career. Only if you are calm in the cockpit can you fight for the world title. Like my friend Sebastian. Ok, he had some difficult races but fortunately he has caught up again," Ecclestone said.
However, the 89-year-old went on to claim Ferrari have the "strongest driver duo for 2020".
