Winning Indy 500 is the "main priority" for Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso says that his main focus for 2020 is having another crack at the Indy 500 as he still chases the famous 'Triple Crown' of motorsport. The Spaniard attempted to win the race last season, but failed to qualify as McLaren provided him an off-the-pace car in a disappointing and shocking qualifying.
Alonso won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2006 and 2007, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the last two years, leaving the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway the only of the Triple Crown he has failed to win.
Since retiring from F1 at the end of 2018, Alonso has looked to experiment with other forms of motorsport, but the famous oval race remains the one he desires most.
He said at the FIA Prize Giving in Paris: “The intention is to do the Indy 500 next year. That’s the one that I want to win now and the main priority for me.
“I will prepare the best I can for that race. This year (Indy) was the downside of the season.
“I will need to look at the best possibilities, to be competitive. Last year (2019) it was sad not to be competitive enough or prepared enough.”
