Racing Point help design street car with the most advanced aerodynamics ever
Gordon Murray, the legendary designer of Brabham and later the McLaren F1, has revealed a new sensational project. A so-called 'fan car' for the street. It will be the most aerodynamically advanced street car ever. The project will use Racing Points wind tunnel to ensure the best aerodynamics.
The T.50, as this new 'supercar' from Gordon Murray Automotive is now called, combines two of his most famous designs. The concept of the Brabham BT46 fan placed in a body that looks very much like the silhouette of the McLaren F1.
The aerodynamic effect of the fan, which is used to suck the car to the ground, will, according to GMA, be a lot more advanced than it was in the Brabham. The BT46 was so dominant in its only participation in a Grand Prix at Anderstorp in Sweden in 1978 that it was immediately banned.
The project will be co-developed in Racing Point's wind tunnel with the approval of Lawrence Stroll, “our aerodynamic specialists will use our wind tunnel to use the latest knowledge and experience from Formula 1 for the T.50 project. This should ensure that Gordon's revolutionary concept reaches its full potential," said the Canadian billionaire.
The car will have a Cosworth V12 engine with 700hp and only weighs 950 kg. The expectation is that 100 cars will go into production and these will be delivered in 2022. Customers must deposit at least two million pounds if they want to order one.
