Vettel: "I will always remain number two in Germany"
- Tom Mason
Sebastian Vettel has enjoyed a successful career to date, winning four world championships, but is aware that back in Germany he will always be known as the number two behind Michael Schumacher.
"That I am and will remain number two in Germany in the field of Formula 1 is no problem for me," Vettel said when speaking to the German ARD.
"The chance also decreases further and further that he will come close, now that young drivers can prove their worth in Formula 1 and where Hamilton is still dominant.
"I think Michael's performances were unique and still unique. He was the one who marked the breakthrough of Formula 1 and motorsport in Germany."
"Everyone who comes after him joins the ranks behind him. I see that very plainly." This makes Vettel modest, but also realistic. Only when a German equals or breaks Schumacher's record will you be greater than the legendary 'Schumi"
The 32-year-old is without a championship title since 2013 due to the dominance of the Mercedes and in particular Lewis Hamilton.
