Verstappen not conceding: "I still count Mexico as my pole position"
Max Verstappen officially scored two pole positions in 2019 in Hungary and Brazil but the Dutchman is still including his Mexico pole which was taken from him after an infringement under yellow flags.
The Dutchman put himself in prime position during qualifying of the Mexican Grand Prix as he looked to have secured his second pole position at the time. However, the Red Bull driver shot himself in the foot after qualifying revealing he didn't slow down after Valtteri Bottas crashed, bringing out the yellow flags.
He was given a grid penalty and the race was won by Lewis Hamilton with Verstappen down in sixth place. The Dutchman has revealed he still includes the pole on his tally.
"I still see it as a pole position, after all I have driven the fastest lap," Verstappen told the F1 at the table podcast.
"Everything went well that weekend, but such a punishment puts you back.
"After the start I didn't get through the first turns with Lewis and then Bottas hit me, with a flat tire as a result. Everything was close to that Sunday," he added.
