Will Renault improve or will Daniel Ricciardo go to Ferrari?
Daniel Ricciardo is fast. Very fast. Few drivers have the confidence to do the things he does. To wait that extra half-second before slamming on the breaks and overtake in places that few drivers would dare. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to see him racing at the front and things look like they will remain the same in 2020.
Having moved to Renault from Red Bull Racing, it was never expected that the Aussie would be winning podiums straight away but few expected Renault to keep taking backward steps.
Ricciardo now finds himself racing in the midfield and for the final places in the top ten on race day. There have been rumors linking him to a seat at Ferrari and you can't help but want to see him move teams and get back to the top of Formula 1.
“I have the impression that my name will always be there. I’ve always been linked to that [Ferrari team], no doubt with my Italian roots," Ricciardo told The Times.
“But it’s still nice to still be mentioned. In the meantime, 2020 remains my priority and I hope that this season will go well and that I’ll stay in the team. It’s the simplest scenario and that’s what I want.”
Can Renault turn things around?
With Esteban Ocon joining the team for the 2020 season, Renault really can't blame their drivers if they don't succeed in 2020. The midfield battle is incredibly tight and the team needs to make changes if they are to pull things around.
Renault have a history in the sport and know how to win. They need to get it right from the first race in 2020 and build some solid momentum, consistently scoring points. They will then hope that the 2021 rule changes suit them and they can make the new regulations really work fo rthem.
Ricciardo needs to be racing further up the grid and if Renault don't get him there, maybe he will move to Ferrari?
