Herbert believes Albon needs to look for consistency at Red Bull next season
2019 was a learning curve for Alex Albon as he started the season with Toro Rosso and ended it at Red Bull. Johnny Herbert wants the Red Bull driver to find consistency in 2020.
Albon was initially set for a season in Formula E but ended up making the switch to Toro Rosso, teaming up with Daniil Kvyat. However, the poor form of Pierre Gasly at Red Bull opened the door for the Thai driver to partner Max Verstappen.
His performances in the second half of the season were enough for him to earn the seat in 2020. Herbert wants to see Albon find consistency so he and Verstappen can put the pressure on Mercedes.
"At Red Bull you now have Alex next to Max, who has only been in F1 for one season," Herbert said at Autosport International.
"At the start of the year he seemed to go to Formula E, but he jumped deep and did very well at Red Bull. He has grown up and drove about the same lap time in Japan as Max.
"He has to get the consistency Max has, but the trust from the team is there. And if those two teams can put the pressure on Mercedes, they can force mistakes on the opponent."
