Mitch Evans beats Guenther to Santiago pole
Mitch Evans will start on pole for the Santiago E Prix as he beat out Maximilian Guenther to take top spot in the first qualifying of 2020.
Evans, who won one race in the 2018/19 season, won his place in the battle for Super Pole with a time of 1m 04.941s and then beat the likes of Guenther and Felipe Massa with a time of 1m 04.827s in the top six battle. Guenther will join the driver from New Zealand on the front row after he missed out by 0.275 seconds.
2018/19 Formula E champion, Jean-Eric Vergne will start down in 11th place. Sam Bird and Alexander Sims, the winners of the opening two races of the season will start 15th and 16th, a frustrating day for the Brits. Despite this Bird will take his previous performances in Chile as a reason for optimism as he won the race in 2019 and scored 11 points the year before.
Ma Qing Hua in the NIO 333, did not participate in qualifying after his accident in FP2.
