Russell would consider Mercedes return offer but wants to focus on job at hand
George Russell may be committed to the job at hand at Williams, but the young Brit has admitted he would have to consider an offer to return to Mercedes and believes anyone else in that situation would do the same.
Russell is entering his second season at Williams, after finishing bottom of the Drivers' Championship in 2019 with zero points. Despite failing to score a point, he impressed throughout the season, displaying his maturity and ability.
The 2018 Formula 2 champion tested for Mercedes on several occasion last seasons, topping the standings during the in-season test in Bahrain. Russell admitted it would be hard for him to ignore an offer to move to Mercedes but wants to focus on what he has to do at his current team.
"Every driver in Formula 1 wants to be world champion and is looking for that chance," Russell told Auto Sport Web.
"Any driver who gets a call from Mercedes, including me, would have to consider it. Mercedes is the team that dominates F1 today.
"I don't want to think too far ahead. You risk not concentrating on the job at hand.
"If you continue to do a good job, you know that offers will come from somewhere. That's why I focus on every race, every free practice. I know what I can do.
"Opportunities will come if you maximise your strengths in each and every session."
