Andreas Seidl explains what McLaren needs to do to "succeed"
Andreas Seidl played a key role in dragging McLaren from the depths of despair to topping the midfield battle in 2019. However, the team want to get back to winning Grand Prix's and world titles and Seidl still thinks that there is a long way to go.
"Success in motorsport is always a team effort and depends on the individual," Seidl said to Auto Motor Und Sport. "I try to create a climate in which we find the right place for everyone in the team, where they can apply their talents, where everyone feels valued and comes to work with joy, with the aim of achieving something together.
"It is important to have little politics in the shop, that there is no finger-pointing at problems, that one is looking for solutions instead. To do this, you need to create a culture so people dare to address issues openly and take risks without fear that if something goes wrong it could harm them.
"I try to do that with my management team. I was lucky in my career that I always had bosses who supported me and at the same time gave me enough freedom. This is the only way to show what you can do. That's how we want to implement this at McLaren in the entire team. For me, that is the key to success."
McLaren will hope that their tweaks will lead to more success in 2020 and that they can become competitive and fight for podiums.
