Claire Williams positive but cautious as testing nears conclusion
After a tumultuous 2019, things are looking up for Williams but Claire Williams is remaining cautious given it is just pre-season testing but wanted to pay tribute to the work the team behind closed doors have done.
Last season Williams scored only a single point, but it was a nightmare from the word go as their car was late to pre-season testing. However, this season they were on time and able to participate as planned with a full six days of testing under their belts.
Despite already securing a better start than last season Williams is tempering expectations.
"It's gone, I'd say well but that temper that with it's testing and you're always going to have issues and challenges," Williams said.
"The team have worked so hard here, trackside operations have done a fantastic job, whether that be the engineers or the mechanics.
"As you can imagine we have a really comprehensive program, we had a lot that we put in it and obviously we have such a condensed amount of time to do it but the team back at the factory just getting the car here on time no dramas like we had last year, it has just felt like a very different place.
"We shouldn't be patting ourselves on the back just for getting our car to testing, because we managed to do it for 40 years prior to last year but it feels like a brick in the wall that we're building and it is back on track.
"We've got to celebrate the small things."
