Vettel: "The most important thing is that you are happy"
Formula 1 drivers make astronomical amounts of money through various different methods but for one man it is far from the most important part of being an F1 driver. Sebastian Vettel has admitted the money he makes is no longer the most important thing for him.
The German is a four-time World Champion and has had huge contracts at both Red Bull and now Ferrari. His salary is estimated at $40 million and his endorsements at around $300,000, making him one of the best-paid athletes in the world.
Despite earning huge sums of money, in an interview with Motorsport-Total.com, Vettel admitted it isn't all about the money.
“Formula 1 is a circus, sometimes a spoiled circus. There is so much money at stake and money corrupts some people's character. On the whole, you can say that," Vettel said.
“At some point, money is no longer the most important thing, it is more about the valuation that goes with it.
"Not many people can do our job. In a way, we risk our lives and that should be appreciated. After all, some careers are shorter than others.
"The most important thing is that you are happy, that is what counts."
