What should Vettel do? "McLaren could be a good team for him''
- GPblog.com
Sebastian Vettel's contract expires at the end of 2020 and it remains to be seen whether the German (or Ferrari) will extend that contract. Will he get a new offer from Ferrari or does the four-time world champion want to look outside the door himself?
Vettel came as a the big champion to the Italian team in 2015 and after failed campaigns with Fernando Alonso, the Tifosi had to get back to cheering. However, it did not succeed. Mercedes (and especially Lewis Hamilton) were the dominating factor and so Ferrari went off to do something different. With Charles Leclerc at his side, Vettel was suddenly put to the test.
Vettel to McLaren?
''I think that the performance of Sebastian have suffered very much with the arrival of Charles Leclerc. Which, of course, is managed by the son of the FIA boss Jean Todt. I also don't think that Sebastian feels that Mattia Binotto is supporting him and I think the best thing for him to do would be to look somewhere else", says former F1-boss Bernie Ecclestone to F1-insider.com.
The question is, of course, where the German should go then, but that's clear to Ecclestone. ''He has to stop or look at other possibilities and that other possibility is McLaren. With the Mercedes engines that will be a really good team from 2021 onwards'', concludes Ecclestone. However, the question is whether McLaren wants to put down a lot of money for a four-time world champion, while the team is still building towards the future.
