F1 teams against double races, Liberty Media looks at different budget caps'
- GPblog.com
Now that Formula 1 is halted by the coronavirus, people come up with all kind of ideas to get the sport going again. Jan Lammers, for example, came up with an idea to drive weekday races like the Champions League, but the teams don't like that.
No double races
That's what Corriere dello Sport says. According to the Italian medium, the teams would be strongly against this proposal, because major damage during a race could cause them to miss a second race. The idea of having two races in one weekend, for example, was therefore quickly dropped. Nobody wants to run the risk of missing races, according to the Italian newspaper.
Another Italian medium, La Gazzetta dello Sport, has just announced that Liberty Media wants to get going with the idea of introducing different budget caps. For example, Christian Horner already let it be known that they have more costs than the smaller teams, because they pay for the production and development costs of the parts they make for the small teams.
Different budget caps
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Ferrari has indicated that it would cost four million euros to develop the suspension for Haas, where Haas would lose 6 million euros if it wanted to develop and produce it itself. That way the costs will be saved, but Ferrari will have to get a different budget cap than Haas.
Based on this idea Liberty Media would now be looking for a possibility to set different budget caps for different parts. Besides that, Ferrari wouldn't want to lay off too many employees in this difficult period, which would be the case with a low budget cap.
