Dutch GP: "By now it has become clear that August was never possible"
- GPblog.com
The Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort will definitely not be held during the original summer break in August. It is not long ago that this was mentioned as a serious possibility. Jan Lammers must agree that this was indeed the case, but that a lot has changed in the meantime.
"Everything is a serious option because you're all trying to come to a solution," says Lammers to Motorsport.com. An observation he made last week to GPblog.com as well. "All kinds of options are coming up. Logically there are also bad ideas, but one by one you strip them away. In the meantime it has become clear that August has never been an option".
Grand Prix for the rest of the year still uncertain
The RIVM guidelines on keeping a distance of one and a half metres still seem to remain in force after 1 September. When asked if Lammers thinks he can organize a Grand Prix within those guidelines he reacts hesitantly: "Then it won't be the Grand Prix of Zandvoort, but the Grand Prix of Kennemerland".
A Grand Prix with 100.000 people in the dunes of Zandvoort seems to be on the horizon for the rest of the year. Although Lammers does not give a definite answer about this, he is clear about the things that are necessary to be able to organize such a big event: 'There must be a vaccine'.
"They're talking about there possibly being a vaccine in September. If there is, the question is how quickly it can be produced and distributed. Whether we can organise major events again next year will depend on that."
