For the time being the French Grand Prix is still the first Formula 1 weekend of 2020, but still the season opener seems to take place in Austria. It is said that the GP at Paul Ricard will be cancelled in the near future and the season will then officially start in Austria. Toto Wolff would welcome the opportunity to ride again at the beginning of July.
In conversation with Österreich, Wolff expresses his enthusiasm for the plans of Formula 1, Red Bull Racing and the Austrian government. "If the decision-makers find a concept to start the season with the necessary safety measures, this would be incredibly positive news for Formula 1 and for Austria", the Mercedes team boss says.
All parties agree
The Red Bull Ring is managed by can giant Red Bull and therefore it is a lot easier for Formula 1 to travel there, since you have to deal with fewer authorities. However, permission from the government in Austria was still needed, but they also support the plan to bring the royal class of motor racing to Spielberg. The measures against the coronavirus in Austria are also being further weakened in recent weeks.
Possibly there will even be two races in Austria next season. According to Red Bull-advisor Helmut Marko the plan is to organize a Formula 1-Grand Prix on June 5 and 12.
