President Automobile Club in Italy: ''Mugello and Imola are also contenders''

Italy's Grand Prix is on few 'leaked' Formula 1 calendars for 2020, as the country was the source of the coronavirus fire in Europe. Nevertheless, the Monza circuit wants to organise the race at all costs.
Earlier Angelo Sticchi Damiani already announced that Monza is still on the provisional calendar of Formula 1. The president of the Automobile Club in Italy therefore called the rumours about a possible cancelled Italian Grand Prix 'fake news' and expects that the race, although behind closed doors, will simply be on the calendar.
Imola and Mugello
''We evaluate the situation from day to day and I think it's mainly important that we don't travel that much in the future. It seems to me very strong that in 2020 we will see a competition where fans will be allowed to come to the race. The sports season has been pretty messed up in the meantime and cancelling the championship would be detrimental to small teams," says Damiani to FormulaPassion.it.
The president expects that there will be racing, but with logistic issues in mind. ''A double race in the same country would be very good and we could do that at Monza, but Imola and Mugello are also contenders for a second Formula 1 race. Both have a lot of history and could add a lot to the existing calendar'', concludes Damiani.
