Because of the coronavirus, the entire Formula 1 is at a standstill, but that doesn't mean that the sport can't help in the fight against the virus. For example, Project Pitlane is helping in the fight against the virus, but circuits are also doing their bit.

Formula 1 comes into action

For example, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez has been converted into a temporary hospital for COVID-19 patients. The circuit normally serves as a base for the Mexican Grand Prix and Formula E is also passing by with the electric cars. It is badly needed as well, because in Mexico the contaminations have increased rapidly.

Mexico already has more than 23,000 people infected with the virus and 2,154 people have died. However, this number is increasing every day. Last day there were more than thousands of known infections and 93 new deaths. The help of the circuit is therefore necessary.

Helping circuits

The circuit has 192 normal beds and 26 intensive care beds. In this way, the enormous crowds in the hospitals should decrease, so that more help can be provided to the people with the coronavirus.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez is not the first circuit that opens the doors for the treatment of the coronavirus. For example, the former Indian Formula 1 circuit has already been used as a shelter for foreign quarantine and the Formula E location in London, the ExCel Centre, has also been taken into use as a temporary hospital.
