Kvyat was not happy with promotion Albon: "It was a bit strange"

Alexander Albon was chosen by Red Bull Racing during the summer break last year to replace the disappointing Pierre Gasly. A choice that resulted in a disappointed Daniil Kvyat at the time. He had hoped for a second chance and perhaps even counted on it.
In the first half of the 2019 season Kvyat was in no way inferior to his new teammate. In qualifying he was usually faster and his great race in the rain at the Hockenheimring was rewarded with the first podium finish for Toro Rosso in more than ten years. However, Red Bull chose to promote the younger Albon.
"I was certainly not happy, that 's clear", says Kvyat in the Beyond the Grid podcast of Formula 1. "I can't say that I understood it completely and fully agreed when I heard it. It was a little strange after all"

However, in the end he said he understood that a driver was chosen who was only in his first season. "I've already driven there and they needed new blood, they had to promote a young driver. That's what Red Bull does. After a few days I accepted the decision."
On the other hand, the now 26-year-old Russian has not yet given up hope of ever returning to Red Bull Racing. In a career in which it seemed a few years ago that he would never return to F1 at all, but was back on the podium last year, anything is still possible according to him. For the time being, however, he is fully focused on his task at AlphaTauri.
