IndyCar is one step ahead of Formula 1 and officially announces start of season

Although it is anything but confirmed that the Formula 1 season starts on July 5 with the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. While that official announcement is still a while away, IndyCar has already made its decision.

IndyCar is not only earlier with their announcements for the new start of the season, they also start racing almost a month earlier. Their first race will take place on June 6, when the Genesys 300 will be driven on the Texas Motor Speedway.

So the Americans go forward, but don't do so recklessly. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic the event will be held without an audience and the race weekend has been shortened. Qualifying and the race will be completed on the same day, which means that they will have to be on the track for a shorter period of time. In addition, everyone will be tested beforehand and you will have to keep your distance in the paddock.

Race in Texas promises to be a spectacle

“America needs live sports and they are not going to believe what they see when the Genesys 300 storms into their living rooms on TV from Texas,” said Eddie Gossage, president and general manager of Texas Motor Speedway on IndyCar.com. “One of the world’s greatest sporting events, the Indy 500, has been postponed until August by coronavirus, so all of that pent-up energy, anticipation, frustrations and anxiety will be pounding through the drivers’ nervous systems. Typically, the Genesys 300 results in a 220-mph photo finish.”
