Doornbos: ''It was starting to get painful for Vettel at Ferrari''

The departure of Sebastian Vettel came as a surprise to many. The German may not have lived up to expectations in recent years, but most had expected that he would get another chance at Ferrari.
No Schumacher effect
Tuesday morning, however, that was not the case, because according to the message, Ferrari and Vettel decided together to put an end to the collaboration. Both of them would no longer see the point of the collaboration and are now both walking a different path. According to Robert Doornbos that is the right choice.
''Vettel has shown once again that you cannot simply emulate the 'Schumacher effect'. He came in as world champion, but just like Fernando Alonso he couldn't do it. It has become quite painful for Vettel, especially when he was defeated last year by Charles Leclerc'', says Doornbos to NU.nl.
Not chasing after Alonso
''At Red Bull Racing it was just perfect for Vettel with Adrian Newey's best car. He had the best car and not the best teammate. At Ferrari you saw him make mistakes with Leclerc next to him and that's not part of the top'', says Doornbos who doesn't think that Vettel will retire immediately.
''I don't see him disappear just like that. A change with Lewis Hamilton would be senastional or a return to Red Bull next to Max Verstappen, but you can't look in the future. He has to be careful that his career does fades away, as with Alonso who drove around frustrated at McLaren'', concludes Doornbos.
