With the departure of Daniel Ricciardo to McLaren, Renault will have to find a new teammate for Esteban Ocon in 2021. Currently, with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso two big names are linked to a move to the French team, the latter being, according to the latest rumors, already close to signing'.
Just like Bild, Marca also knows that Alonso is in talks with Renault for a new employment. The Spaniard drove for the yellow factory team twice before, from 2003 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2009.
The Spanish newspaper writes on its website: "Renault need a big name to keep their ambitious project afloat and they believe Alonso represents their best option going forward". Vettel is also associated with the team of Cyril Abiteboul, but he himself would not have ears to a transfer.
Liberty Media
The big stumbling block for Renault would be Alonso's salary. The two-time world champion may not have been active in Formula 1 for two years, but he still asks for a substantial fee. However, according to the previous mentioned medium, a solution for this would already be in the making. "Liberty Media are happy to pay a good part of Alonso's high wages and an agreement could be reached before the 2020 season gets underway in Austria."
