Doornbos expects Verstappen to become even stronger: "Especially behind scenes"
- GPblog.com
Last year Max Verstappen proved, according to Robert Doornbos, that he is ready to seize the world title. According to the former Formula 1 driver it's now up to Red Bull Racing to make sure that Verstappen actually gets that chance.
"Max has proven that he can do it," says Doornbos in conversation with Formule 1 Magazine. The analyst believes that it is now up to Christian Horner and Helmut Marko to make the RB16 so competitive that Verstappen can compete with Mercedes every Grand Prix weekend. "Max shifts the ball to the team: 'I'm ready, just get me a car and engine that's good enough for the world championship'".
In recent years, the now 22-year-old Limburger has visibly improved. He is just as aggressive, but a lot more patient. Because of this it may have decreased the level of amusement a bit, but Verstappen manages to accumulate more World Championship points. Bernie Ecclestone, as a former Formula 1 owner, also indicated that it is 'a pity' that the Red Bull driver has become more mature.
Verstappen will improve
Verstappen will also become stronger in the easons to come. However, according to Doornbos, the average fan won't be able to see that during the races on the asphalt. "It will mainly be behind the scenes", the 38-year-old Dutchman expects. By this he means that Verstappen will become even better, especially when it comes to giving feedback.
