Toto Wolff is happy that the season can start in Austria. The team boss of Mercedes sees that in Austria managed to keep the corona infections low, making a Grand Prix in July very likely. The Austrian is often on the circuit in Spielberg and therefore expects that it will be a good first Grand Prix.
"I'm quite optimistic that we can start in Austria because it's one of the countries where the numbers around the virus have remained low," Wolff explains in a video from Mercedes. "I know the circuit very well because I've done thousands of laps as an instructor. It really feels like a second home and I have many beautiful memories of that place".
Very nice that there will be two races at once
In addition to the beautiful memories, Wolff also expects that the circuit, together with F1, can come to a reasonable plan to organize everything. "I expect that the circuit really can come to a good plan how we can race there. Starting the season there makes me very happy, firstly because Austria will be the start of the season and secondly because we will have two race weekends in a row, so we will really be driving two races. I'm really looking forward to it."
Whether the season will really start in Austria has not yet been officially announced by the FIA. However, a message intended for the F2- and F3-teams has been leaked before, stating that the season will start in Austria. Wolff also hopes that we can start racing soon. "With the team we are already planning a number of races for the preparations and hopefully we can start the season soon".
