Wurz: "Hamilton at Mercedes is still uncertain, nothing has been signed yet"
- GPblog.com
Due to the current driver changes in Formula 1, there are many rumours about other drivers changing teams before 2021. For example, the name of Sebastian Vettel has been increasingly linked to Mercedes lately. For 2021 the German team does not have anyone under contract yet. A German driver with a German team would of course be good marketing. Vettel is often mentioned as the possible replacement for Valtteri Bottas, but according to Alexander Wurz one should not draw conclusions too quickly.
"Are you sure (Lewis) Hamilton is staying with Mercedes?" The chairman of the GPDA notes that Hamilton also has an expiring contract. "Everyone is speculating about the second seat at Mercedes, but the first seat hasn't been confirmed yet either". Against Sky Sports the Austrian announces that there is more unrest within the team. Toto Wolff is also thinking about his future, according to Wurz: "He is thinking if he still wants to be part of the current project".
Pressure from an entire country on your shoulders
Even though Vettel would join Mercedes before 2021, Wurz still expects it to be very hard for the German. "Suppose he gets there, Vettel will have the pressure of the whole country as a German driver". According to Wurz, Vettel will experience more pressure when he joins Mercedes.
Whether Vettel will actually go to Mercedes is still unclear, just as the driver will have to make way for the German. Bottas already seems to be taking precautions, as sources have already reported that he is in talks with Renault, who are also looking for a new driver for 2021.
