Audi suspends Formula E driver who let professional simracer race for him
- GPblog.com
A joke during a sim race will probably cost Daniel Abt a lot of money. During the Virtual Formula E race, Abt had a professional simracer drive for him and that cost him his place in the Audi team.
Expensive joke
On Sunday the German Formula E driver took part in the virtual race in Berlin, where he eventually lost his third place. Abbot was disqualified for having Lorenz Hoerzing drive under his name. Abt received a fine of 10,000 euros and of course also lost his points.
However, this is not all, because Audi is not served by the action of Abt. ''Daniel himself did not drive during qualifying and the race of the Race at Home Challenge on 23 May, but left the wheel to a professional simracer. He apologized and accepted the disqualification'', begins the statement, which however continues with great consequences for Abt.
No Formula E
''Integrity, transparency and the ability to comply with rules are important values for Audi, which are important in all its activities. For this reason, Audi Sport has decided to suspend Daniel Abt with immediate effect'', concludes the statement of the German car brand.
However, the action, which according to the driver himself had no 'bad intention', has major consequences. According to reports, Abt would also lose its place in the Audi Formula E team, but this has not yet been confirmed by the brand itself.
