Formula 1 drivers have been getting younger and younger in recent years. Nobody was as young as Max Verstappen when he started, but also Lance Stroll and Lando Norris got into an F1 car as teenagers. At the other end of the spectrum, drivers also seem to keep going longer and longer. Kimi Raikkonen made his debut almost 20 years ago and also peer Fernando Alonso is looking forward to a return.

One of his former team bosses at Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali, would welcome a return of the Spaniard. Although young talents are eager to play a heroic role. According to him, a hero of yesterday is always a good addition to Formula 1.

"We already have fantastic young drivers, but Alonso would take F1 to the next level," Domenicali told Reuters. "He would certainly be a strong driver. Of course, he could be even stronger with a good car that is fast, but Fernando would be a very important asset for Formula 1 when he comes back".

With that last sentence Domenicali probably refers to Renault. Alonso quit Formula 1 at the end of 2018 because at McLaren he didn't see any short-term prospects of victories, let alone a championship. At Renault he could end up in a similar situation and he will have to hope that the manufacturer can work miracles with the new regulations.
