Helmut Marko has from the start made a strong case for a Grand Prix of Austria in the first weekend of July and that has paid off. On Friday the Austrian government announced that the safety plan for Formula 1 has been approved and with that all the paperwork has been approved. Marko can't run out of luck.

"It's very important for Formula 1 that we start again," Marko is quoted by Krone.at. The Red Bull Racing advisor also sees that it is good news for Austria as an organizing country. "As a tourist and export country it is an opportunity, because it will be the world sports event that is being organised. We are happy and proud of Austria!"

No audience at GP's Austria

For a moment there was talk that spectators might be admitted to the Red Bull Ring during the Grand Prix-weekends in Spielberg, but Marko states that that idea is definitely off the table. "The concept that was approved was submitted without the possibility of spectators", says the Austrian, who is sure that the circuit will be ready in a month's time. "They have already prepared, so there is now enough time."

For the past two years it was Max Verstappen who took victory in the Red Bull car. Marko hopes to repeat it. "We've won the last two years in Spielberg and hope we can do it again."

Marko doesn't rule out surprises

There will be two Grands Prix this year at the Red Bull Ring, something that, according to the man from Graz, could lead to 'one or two surprises'. "For example, when you can find a great set-up from one weekend to the next. This concept is technically something new and can always lead to surprises," concluded Marko.
