From 2022, the regulations will change considerably in IndyCar. According to Roger Penske Ferrari has a serious interest to join the motorsport series from that year on.

Ferrari is the best known name in Formula 1, but the company has already indicated that it is also interested in other branches of motorsport. The American racing series IndyCar is one of them.

The Italian team has now actually added word to deed, says Roger Penske. The American businessman and former driver is the owner of IndyCar. "We are trying to attract new manufacturers to the sport. Ferrari has shown public interest before and so we have sat down for a talk", Penske tells radio station Sirius XM.

A great addition to IndyCar

The participation of Ferrari will not immediately be for next year. "They may want to join in 2022. Then the new regulations will come into force. For IndyCar, Ferrari would be a great addition."

With the new regulations, hybrid power sources will be introduced in IndyCar, the same type of engines used in Formula 1. Ferrari will also use the technique for its street cars. In addition to the Italian team, the power sources will also be made by Honda and Chevrolet, if Ferrari's plan goes ahead.
