Ricciardo: ''Frustrating that in F1 you have to be with the best team''

Daniel Ricciardo makes the transition to McLaren in 2021, after his adventure at Renault did not turn out as he had hoped. The Australian is still aiming for a world title, but he also sees more and more how difficult it will be.
The ultimate goal
From HRT to Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing and Renault. Meanwhile, Ricciardo has already had nine seasons in Formula 1 and will start his tenth year in 2020. However, he has never been presented with a world championship worthy car and that is a tricky point for Ricciardo in the meantime.
''It's frustrating that in Formula 1 it's crucial to be on the right team. It's actually a kind of chess where you have to know in advance who will be the best. I have the feeling that I will always find my way to the top and with the new rules I might be on the right team," Ricciardo says in conversation with the BBC.
World champion
Ricciardo left Red Bull with great ambitions. He wanted to be the leader of a team and thus become world champion. At Red Bull he had to fight Max Verstappen and it seemed that Ricciardo didn't want that anymore. However, Renault turned out not to be the right option and now McLaren has to be the jump to the top for Daniel.
''My goal was not just to get into F1, but to become world champion. I'm happy that I can participate in this sport, but I'm disappointed if I can't reach my goal, because I think I have the talent for it. The moment that I don't believe that anymore, I will stop Formula 1'', Ricciardo concludes clearly.
