Jean Todt, in conversation with Corriere della Sera, discussed his expectations regarding the battle for the upcoming world title. The FIA President does not designate a favourite and further states that he regrets that Mercedes was resolutely against the idea of sprint races in Formula 1.

Todt doesn't dare to predict which team will make it to the 2020 World Championship. "Who was strong, will remain strong. It will be interesting to see how the teams deal with the drivers' feedback in terms of development. Feedback that is normally collected on the track is now missing of course".

FIA busy with new plans?

Liberty Media worked hard for reversed grid sprint races in Austria and Great Britain at the beginning of June. Eventually the idea was shot down by Mercedes, while unanimity was a requirement. To the question whether he is disappointed, Tost answers: "A moment like this offers opportunities", the Frenchman refers to the current situation with the coronavirus. "If you had dealt with two general practitioners, further attempts would have been possible. But it's not said that we won't find other innovative ideas."

Todt is also asked about the departure of Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari after 2020. "I don't feel like judging. The only thing I want to say is that he is a very talented driver and that he has no place for 2021. I hope for him and for F1 that he will get one", the 74 year old top man said.
