Zanardi still in artificial coma, hospital stops updating daily
- GPblog.com
The situation around Alessandro Zanardi is being closely monitored by many people in the world, but the situation is not changing at the moment, the hospital admits in a new statement.
Accident of Zanardi
Zanardi was taken to the hospital after a serious accident with his handbike and has been kept in an artificial coma ever since. The Italian who was active in Formula 1 and came back as a Paralympic handbike champion after his legs were amputated, has been in hospital in the same conditions for days now. Earlier this week the hospital came out with the announcement that Zanardi will be kept in an artificial coma until next week and that situation hasn't changed yet.
"The athlete spent the fifth night in hospital without substantial changes in his clinical conditions, as regards the cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters, and the neurological picture remains serious,’’ according to the hospital.
Geen nieuwe updates
“Neuro-monitoring continues and is constantly evaluated by a team consisting mainly of anaesthesiologists, resuscitators and neurosurgeons, supported by a multi-disciplinary team based on different clinical needs. The patient is always sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated and the prognosis remains confidential.”
Until now, daily updates have been given by the hospital about the current situation, but that does not remain the case. “After hearing the family, it is considered useful not to disseminate other medical bulletins until there are significant changes in his state of health”, the hospital spokesperson decides.
