Last Monday Mercedes announced to drive a special car this season. Mercedes has decided to drive a black car instead of a silver one. The team of Lewis Hamilton thus supports the British driver, who has made himself heard several times in recent weeks on social media about racism and inequality. Lando Norris has now indicated in an interview with the BBC that the drivers are also thinking about showing their support during the start of the season in Austria.

McLaren's driver says it has to be a collective decision. "If we want to do something like this, we have to do it together as a grid". Norris points to this to kneel during the national anthem, which will be played prior to the Grand Prix. "We will do what we can to show respect and understanding."

Support statements on car

Also at McLaren there will be expressions of support on the car. Norris himself also says he wants to do a lot to show support. "In my youth I always wanted to be better than the rest, but I think it is important that everyone gets the same chance and should be treated equally. It is unfair that people are treated differently purely because of their origin," says Norris.

The young Brit thinks Formula 1 should speak out clearly about the discussion, also because of the scope of the sport. Formula 1 has already made a start with the #WeRaceAsOne campaign. According to Norris this is a step in the right direction. "Nor", says Norris.
