For some time now Mercedes and Red Bull Racing have not been completely in line when it comes to the Mercedes DAS system. With that system Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas can change the position of the wheels to gain extra time.

Protest or no protest?

The system came up during the test weeks in Barcelona. Red Bull was strongly against the technical gimmick from the beginning of the Mercedes innovation. It was therefore expected that, as in Australia, Red Bull would make a protest against the use of the DAS system.

However, Helmut Marko now informs Auto, Motor und Sport that the Austrian race stable has other priorities than making a protest: "We will think about that. Now we want to organise this Grand Prix well and safely first."

See what it really does

Red Bull may let his great rival for the title on Friday use the technical trick to see what it really does. The opinions of the DAS system vary widely. One says it can win two tenths of a lap and the other says it can go up to half a second.
