It is not yet certain if Sebastian Vettel will be active in Formula 1 next year. The German says he wants to keep driving alone in a strong team and according to him Mercedes is therefore definitely an option for 2021.

In recent weeks it seemed that Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari had not come to an agreement during the negotiations and that it was a mutual decision to part ways. In Austria, the German has let it be known however that he was simply dropped by the team.

Moreover, the seats available for next season are starting to become increasingly scarce, but Vettel doesn't want to work for any Formula 1 team either. "I'm not the man to stay active in Formula 1 just to race. I won't stick around just to keep making money. I'm just still very motivated, as long as the signals remain good," the four-time world champion said at a press conference in Spielberg.

Shot for the title

The German is clearly referring to a seat on a top team, but there aren't many of them left. Possibly, however, there could be a place at Mercedes, which Vettel is undoubtedly open to. "They have the best car and the team guarantees everyone who enters the race a chance to win the title. Of course it is important for me to have a competitive car. So for me, Mercedes is definitely an option."

The only question is whether the Mercedes team is open to this. Until now Toto Wolff has been quiet about the future of the drivers driving for the team. Performance in the coming season will undoubtedly play a very important role in that choice.
