Verstappen glad to be starting on the mediums after qualifying third in Austria
Max Verstappen qualified in third place for the Austrian Grand Prix. The Dutchman will start on the second row of the grid but was comfortably beaten by the Mercedes drivers.
"I was not entirely happy with the balance of the car. In some corners it was good, but sometimes it wasn't at all. So the gap could have been even bigger, but half a second is already a reasonable gap. I don't know what else to say about it, we just have to keep working hard to close the gap. Of course, we've never been the fastest on one lap here," Verstappen said in the press conference after qualifying.
"I'm glad I could do a fast lap on the medium in Q2, so we'll start on that tire. Tomorrow it will also be warmer, so that will probably give us an advantage. I hope it will all be a bit closer together in the race. In the end we're now on P3 and I think it's a really good start to the season.
"Time will tell about how tomorrow's race will turn out. We clearly have to do something else and I'm just going to do my best for us from the start. We need to take a good look at how the tyres will perform tomorrow," concluded the Red Bull Racing driver.
