'Renault presents the new driver for 2021 on Wednesday'
- GPblog.com
Renault will announce next Wednesday who will sit next to Esteban Ocon at Renault in 2021. Several sources report that today and it already seems clear who it could be.
''I've been told that Renault will announce on Wednesday who will be Renault's new driver. After the race, Cyril Abiteboul has told mechanics who have worked there for more than fifteen years that they have already worked with him'', Naomí de Miguel said on her Twitter account.
Who chooses Renault?
The Spanish motorsports journalist is not the only one, as several sources report that Renault will hold an official press event on Wednesday to announce the new driver. Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg seem to be the biggest candidates, as it concerns a driver with whom the mechanics have already worked.
Alonso already drove for Renault between 2003 and 2006 and later in 2008 and 2009. Hulkenberg was active for Renault between 2017 and 2019. In addition to Alonso and Hulkenberg, there are two other drivers who would be covered by the directive. For example, in 2012 and 2013 Kimi Raikkonen drove for the team then operating under the name of Lotus and the same goes for Romain Grosjean. Jolyon Palmer and Pastor Maldonado also meet the description, but do not seem to be serious candidates.

Según me han informado, el miércoles #Renault tiene previsto hacer un anuncio oficial.
Tras la carrera, Cyril Abiteboul les ha dicho a los mecánicos más veteranos (aquellos que llevan más de 15 años), que ya han trabajado con él.

If it's Alonso or Hulkenberg, it would be a slap in the face of a driver like Zhou.

Rumours from Spain and France are intensifying. Apparently Abiteboul informed his most experienced and long-running mechanics that the soon-to-be-announced Renault driver already worked with them. An announcement is expected to be issued on Wednesday
