Fernando Alonso is about to make his comeback in Formula 1. According to the BBC, the Spaniard will be racing for Renault next season. The deal will be officially announced tomorrow.
RACER and La Gazetta Dello Sport are also announcing their return. Alonso takes the place of Daniel Ricciardo, who left for McLaren, at Renault. Alonso becomes a teammate of Esteban Ocon. It means the return of Alonso in Formula 1 and at Renault, the team where he has had many successes in the past. He became champion in 2005 and 2006 and won seventeen Grands Prix in the service of the French constructor. In total he triumphed in 32 races, which makes him the number six on the rankings.
In 2018 Alonso announced his Formula 1 retirement. After a disappointing year at McLaren he seemed to leave the pinicle of motorsport behind to pursue other goals. So he participated in the 24 Hours of Daytona. However, Alonso never ruled out a comeback in Formula 1, especially if there is a nice challenge ahead of him. As of next season the 38-year old Spaniard will most likely be back.
