Red Bull Racing hoped to be able to compete with Mercedes on Saturday, but the team didn't even come close. According to Christian Horner, they should quickly find out why the car does not live up to expectations.

While the cars of Racing Point have comfortably occupied the second row of the grid, one RB16 is not even in the top 10. Max Verstappen will start tomorrow's Hungarian Grand Prix from seventh position, while last year he was allowed to start from pole position.

According to Christian Horner qualifying was a big disappointment. "Today’s qualifying performance was not what we have come to expect as a Team and we simply didn’t have enough speed. There are some unexpected behaviours in the cars and we need to understand the cause of this quickly", the team boss explained on the Red Bull Racing website.

Hard work as a team

"Alex had a less than ideal out lap in Q2, with traffic hampering his run, and was unable to put in a time good enough to progress to Q3. Max made it comfortably through to Q3 on the soft tyre but just didn’t have the balance, and therefore the pace to set a time faster than P7", the Brit continued.

It will therefore be difficult for Red Bull Racing to score many points in the Grand Prix. "We now have to work hard as a Team in order to get as much as we can out of the race tomorrow and ensure we have some points on the table and understand the car behaviour we are experiencing this weekend", Horner concluded.
