Sebastian Vettel has acknowledged a little regret of the way in which he left Red Bull Racing in 2014. The German had a very difficult year with the Austrian racing team and suddenly went to Ferrari. This could have been done in a cleaner way, he says almost six years later.

Rumors were already going around last week that Dietrich Mateschitz is still a little angry with Vettel, as he signed a long-term contract with Ferrari without informing the Red Bull owner in time.

Vettel hates to say goodbye to Red Bull

In an interview with Sky Deutschland, Vettel indicates that he does not regret his departure to Ferrari, but that he regrets the course of events at that time. "I was fascinated by Michael (Schumacher) in the red car, so I was very attracted to that team. What I do regret a little is the way it ended with Red Bull."

After four World Championships in a row with Red Bull, the 2014 season was one to forget quickly. "We didn't finish at a high level, which sometimes happens in sports. But it was a little weird with contracts, about what I could and could not say", explains Vettel. "That was a bit uncomfortable."

Vettel has regrets

Next time, Vettel would certainly take a different approach. “Looking back, I have to say I regret that. We had a fantastic time together, we achieved so much and had fun, so I should have listened to my gut more in terms of how that was done.”
