Seidl about quick choice: "Didn't want to fall behind"

McLaren was very quick to contract Daniel Ricciardo when it became clear that Carlos Sainz would trade the team for Ferrari after two years. McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl explains that the team did not want to fall behind with their driver line-up.
Quick action from McLaren
"We didn't want to fall behind, and that's why we've been actively talking to Daniel", says Seidl to Formel1.de. According to the German team manager there was a 'handshake agreement' with the Australian driver who is still driving for Renault.
"As soon as the first stones fell we had to make decisions. And we are very, very happy. It turned out to be very good for all parties. We are looking forward to Daniel, a seven-time winner of the race. It's a reference we don't have in the team at the moment, although Carlos and Lando are doing great of course", said Seidl.
Vettel was not an option
Seidl announces that an exchange between Sainz and Sebastian Vettel has never been an option. "I hold him in high esteem, both as a driver and as a person. However, it was never about a seat at McLaren. Of course I hope for the German fans that Sebastian, as quadruple world champion, will also be on the grid next year", concludes Seidl.
