Brazilian GP promoter warns: "Sport will be dead with us in 40 years"

Tamas Rohonyi, promoter of the Brazilian Grand Prix, warns of the future of motorsport in his country if the event disappears from the Formula 1 calendar for good. The Brazilian contribution to the royal class is expected to shrink considerably.
Promoter Tamas Rohonyi therefore rings the alarm bell. "A lot of people depend on this. Not only in Formula 1, in many other branches as well. Brazil is an important location, if only because of tradition. Brazilians have become world champions eight times," says Rohonyi in conversation with Motorsport.com.
Rohonyi makes no bones about it and fears for the end of Brazilian successes in Formula 1, if the race doesn't return. "I spoke with the President of the Brazilian ASN and he said to me: "If we lose the race, Brazilian motorsport will be dead for the next 40 years. Because all the children who drive karts, they hope one day to go to F1. But they will stop."
Since 1973
Normally Brazil belongs to the racing calendar. Since 1973 there has been continuous racing on Interlagos, the famous circuit. Due to the consequences of the coronavirus, Formula 1 decided to put a stop to the American races this season, so Brazil is not a host this year either.
