Monza confirms: No spectators this year during Grand Prix
- GPblog.com
For many drivers, the Monza stage is the most beautiful of the year. That's because the stage is partly over the circuit and the track is filled with passionate fans during the podium ceremony. This year this will not happen because no spectators will be welcome at the Grand Prix of Italy.
The organizers have indicated that there will be no spectators during the Grand Prix early September because of COVID-19. Italy has been severely affected by the pandemic and does not want to take any risks. At Autosport a statement states that the race will be held behind closed doors.
Spectators present
This is bad news for the men's drivers who are allowed to take the podium, although the honoring was already different at a number of races than in previous years. For example, the podium ceremony was held on the track.
The last couple of weeks there was some news coming out of which the hope was expressed that at some races spectators would be allowed. This will only take place after Monza. Mugello, also Italy, seems to be the first race where a limited number of fans will be admitted, although the situation may change soon.
