Verstappen after failed victory: "It's a bit of luck and misfortune"
For Max Verstappen, it was a very quiet Sunday afternoon. The RB16 of the Dutchman didn't have the pace to follow the Mercedes, but the last lap drama led to an unexpected opportunity.
On the Silverstone circuit, he said in a first reaction afterwards: "It's a bit of luck and a bit of bad luck.
"In the race, Mercedes was too fast. The tyres didn't look great with tenths of a lap to go, so I said on the radio that the right front tyre didn't look too good. Then Valtteri had another flat and I said I was going to take it easy."
That's what made Red Bull decide to put in an extra pit stop because of the large margin on Charles Leclerc.
"That's when we made a pit stop to catch the fastest lap. Moments later Lewis also had a flat tyre. I'm very happy with a second place, it's again a good result for us."
